ARDS acute respiratory distress syndrome
Patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 are prone to rapid development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) of which pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is considered a sequelae.

LOS length of stay
Our study assesses whether active or recent SARS-CoV-2 positivity increases hospital length of stay (LOS) or postoperative complications following appendectomy.

PPI protein–protein interaction
Based on the common DEGs, a series of analyses were performed, including Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway analysis, protein–protein interaction (PPI) network construction and hub gene extraction, transcription factor (TF)–DEG regulatory network construction, TF–DEG–miRNA coregulatory network construction and drug molecule identification.

CFR case fatality rate
BackgroundAs management and prevention strategies against COVID-19 evolve, it is still uncertain whether prior exposure to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) affects COVID-19 severity in patients with cancer.MethodsIn a joint analysis of ICI recipients from OnCovid (NCT04393974) and European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) CoCARE registries, we assessed severity and mortality from SARS-CoV-2 in vaccinated and unvaccinated patients with cancer and explored whether prior immune-related adverse events (irAEs) influenced outcome from COVID-19.FindingsThe study population consisted of 240 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 between January 2020 and February 2022 exposed to ICI within 3 months prior to COVID-19 diagnosis, with a 30-day case fatality rate (CFR30) of 23.6% (95% CI 17.8 to 30.7%).

HM hematological malignancies
Results A total of 1748 patients with cancer and COVID-19 infection were admitted over a 2-year period (3.2% of total hospital admissions during the same period), 49% had hematological malignancies (HM) (see table).

SDOH social determinants of health
Understanding individual-level and area-level factors contributing to inequities at the intersection of COVID-19 and cancer is critical.ObjectiveTo evaluate associations of individual-level and area-level social determinants of health (SDOH) with delayed or discontinued cancer treatment following SARS-CoV-2 infection.Design, Setting, and ParticipantsThis retrospective, registry-based cohort study used data from 4768 patients receiving cancer care who had positive test results for SARS-CoV-2 and were enrolled in the American Society for Clinical Oncology COVID-19 Registry.

NHW non-Hispanic White
Methods: This retrospective cohort study is comprised of 2,686 non-Hispanic White (NHW), non-Hispanic Black (NHB), and Hispanic cancer patients from the American Society for Clinical Oncology COVID-19 Registry (ASCO Registry), for whom relatively complete data were available at entry into the registry (at the date of confirmed positive SARS-CoV-2 test) up to the end of the follow-up period (~6-9 months post confirmed positive SARS-CoV-2 test).
